In 1972, James E. Kane, Sr. opened his first adult home in Utica NY. Over the next 10 years he added 9 more adult homes.  The mission was to provide a small home like environment to each resident while at the same time meet the needs of the local community.  A central or main office provided oversight and professional staff to each community. In 1984, James E. Kane, Jr. joined the company first as the bookkeeper and eventually as the controller.  Although the company had several partners and several names over the years, Mr. Kane, Sr. was always the operating partner.  In 1996, James Kane, Sr. and James Kane, Jr. formed a partnership called Adirondack Manor Homes for Adults and bought out all remaining partners.

Today, Adirondack Manor owns and operates 8 adult homes located within 7 counties of upstate New York with a total capacity of 359 residents. The homes range in size from 34 to 60 beds. The homes serve a variety of residents including both private pay and SSI.

Adirondack Manor also operates an “Assisted Living Program” in 5 of its communities. This program allows our residents to age in place for a longer period of time postponing the need for higher cost and more restrictive skilled nursing placement.

Adirondack Manor is a proud member of the Empire State Association of Assisted Living.

Each Adirondack Manor community is licensed by the New York State Department of Health.

Adirondack Manor’s mission is to provide a safe, comfortable, supportive environment in which each individual can maintain the quality of life they deserve. We accomplish this by understanding that each person is unique, that each person has a lifetime of experiences that has shaped who they are, that each person is entitled to considerate and respectful care.

We will work with each resident and family to develop a plan of care that promotes dignity, independence, privacy, and individual preferences while at the same time providing security and assistance when needed.


James Kane Sr.

James Kane Sr. was a licensed Nursing home administrator in Utica NY prior to opening the first Adirondack Manor community in 1972. He was the sole operating partner from 1972 – 1996 and was 1 of 2 operating partners along with James Kane Jr. from 1996 until his retirement in 2004. James Kane Sr. was 1 of a handful of operators that helped form the Empire state association of assisted Living (ESAAL) in the 1970’s. he also was a board member and president of ESAAL and is currently a lifetime member of the association. James Kane Sr. resides in Florida where he spends time golfing and enjoying life with his wife Carol.

James Kane Jr.

James Kane Jr. graduated from SUNY Oswego in 1984 with a BS in Business and accounting. He joined Adirondack Manor shortly after his graduation and has been there since that time. In 1996 he became a partner in the business and has been the operating partner since 2004. He has been an executive board member of ESAAL for over 15 years including 10 years as President. He is currently the treasurer. James Kane Jr. has always been an advocate for this states most needy and vulnerable adults. He has worked tirelessly with the state legislature and department of health to promote, expand, and improve assisted living.

Rhonda Wallace

Rhonda started with Adirondack Manor on April 1, 1986. She began as a Personal Care Aid and during that time began to demonstrate the skills and commitment necessary to move into advanced positions. Rhonda became the Assistant Administrator of a 18 bed facility and in a short time, transferred to a 24 bed facility as the administrator where she continued her growth and knowledge of her chosen career. In 1993, she transferred to the Camden facility where she was administrator for a forty bed facility. As Rhonda raised her family in the Camden area, she continued as administrator and Regional director for the next 14 years. In 2007, with her family grown, Rhonda decided she was ready to transition into a position as administrator of a 60 bed facility including 30 bed ALP Program. In October 2014 Rhonda was promoted to Director of Operations. As Director Rhonda has proved an invaluable asset to Adirondack Manor. Rhonda treasures her role with the day to day contact of all facilities staff and residents and sharing her knowledge of the field with others.

Cindy Barnett

Cindy Barnett, born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. Attended Sullivan County Community College, graduated in 1982 and received her Associates Degree Secretarial Law. Cindy then went on to Brooklyn College where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education in 1986. Cindy was employed with the New York City Parks Department for several years. In 1990, Cindy and her husband moved to the Clifton Park, NY, where she was employed as a secretary with two different Patent Law Firms for several years until leaving to raise her sons. She then decided to return to work and was hired November 1999 working at Adirondack Manor HFA, as an Executive Assistant to both James E. Kane, Sr. & James E. Kane, Jr. Currently she assists James E. Kane, Jr. in all aspects of the day to day operation of Adirondack Manor, which includes human resource, billing and personnel issues.

In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and 2 sons. Cindy enjoys watching and attending many different sporting events. In the Spring/Summer Cindy enjoys playing softball in a Women’s League in Clifton Park.
